Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item are enhanced by upgrading it, also referred to as "upping". Each upgrade increment gives an increase in linearity of a given stat.
Players can recycle six items at one time to gauge each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling an item increases with its rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats on your weapons and armor. This can be done through a number of means that include the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. A lot of items can be reforged in order to increase their stats.
Upgradeable items can be found throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The main way to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are components that can be slotted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with upgrade slots, and most require a certain level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer an overall bonus.
There are many types of upgrade components available in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments can be placed on any equipment, and offer less than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools and offer numerous bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed of the item's collection to providing extra crafting materials.
Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. This will display an overview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected stats are after the upgrade, as well as any required components or materials. The Upgrade button at the bottom will be labeled as Blocked if you don't have enough of either.
The upper-right corner displays the number of upgrade components required to create a particular item. The cost of upgrading increases with the upgrade level and rarity, but can be reduced by various methods, including purchasing upgrades at a merchant or trading them to other players.
Many weapons can be improved by a prefix such as a rune, or an insignia. Other weapons can be improved with an suffix. Glyphs

This is not the actual amount by which the glyph will increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount by which it can do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the item you're enchanting it to.
Most upgrade components slotted into items can't be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to the gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can take out any glyph with the help of the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its shards therefore it should not be considered as a loss.
If you take an item off after putting a glyph on it, the shards from the glyph will vanish. You can also apply the glyph to your equipment to add a bonus. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and be distributed slowly to the wearer instead of all at once. This is beneficial for players who are taking a lot of damage from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens permit players to alter the affixes on their equipment and weapons, and can be found in various ways like mistery boxes or as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or by killing bosses. Each reroll token grants the player a brand new random affix, which is usually superior to the one they had before. Reroll tokens are also a great way to reroll weapon stats, which can be upgraded to provide better damage or additional perks.
Rerolled items don't appear on the menu for upgrade options, however they can still be upgraded. When you press the "upgrade button" you can recycle these recycled items. This will change the layout of the item's window and let up to six items to be selected to recycle. The gauge of level is increased by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, therefore items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls are based on a % chance for a weapon's trait. If it scores higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolls are a good option for upgrading an item, but users must be aware that it could lower the overall ilvl of the weapon based on the number of rerolls required to increase it to its final ilvl. This reduction effect is most effective on ring items and Diadems that do not have any alternatives to raise their ilvls.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players for being expensive and it's more equitable to let players pay for it in the form of money or a food item that allows players to alter their builds without wasting time and effort. However the paid rerolls aren't something that the developers would like to incorporate at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning add a race change potion in the near future.
Leveling
There are many ways to increase the level of an item upgrade . The first is to increase the amount of upgrade which boosts the upgrade value of a given stat. The second is to boost the effect of an upgrade, which increases the healing or damage of a given stat. Additionally there is the possibility to upgrade the base item to a more powerful upgrade type. When this is done, the new item will keep its iLevel, but will benefit from the upgrade effects of the upgraded type of item.
It is important to remember that upgrades are random. In the majority of cases, a better roll is based on the glyphs. However there are occasions when a greater or special roll can occur. The item type will also determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a unique item type, then it is likely to receiving a higher level.
Upgrades to items can be costly especially when you're upgrading a piece of equipment from a standard to the legendary track. The price will be based on the item's iLevel base and the number of upgrade levels it comes with. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests to get to the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky your upgraded item will reach the highest level on its upgrade track and gain an additional benefit. This will give the item a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will vary with each upgrade level though. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased a value of +3.
Based on the item's base level and upgrade process, the iLevel for the upgraded item will change too. For example an item that has been upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to a rare or exceptional item is likely to get the enhanced defense of the new base item type.
